TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
From January 1981 to November 1988 Jim Lawrence worked as a Technical Assistant
for the Computer Graphics Unit of the Surveyor General Branch under my supervision.
Jim's main duties were concerned with the production of digital maps. His work
was always of the highest quality and quantity.
Jim demonstrated excellent problem solving skills generally and especially with survey
compilation issues as well as the development of software tools for the whole unit to
improve efficiency and effectiveness. His software tools ultimately became a
complete Coordinated Geometry application for the entry of survey data into the
Branch's digital maps. Jim always displayed a high level of initiative. When he saw
a problem or a more effective way of doing a procedure he would often produce a software
solution that he developed mostly on his own time so as not to affect his normal
map production.
Jim required little supervision as he worked very well independently. I often
utilized his abilities by having him head up special projects where he was responsible
for identifying and organizing both tasks and resources to accomplish the required
results on time.
Jim was courteous, got along well with and was well liked by his co-workers and
I considered him to be a valuable member of the Computer Graphics Unit. I have
remained in contact with Jim since he left the government to pursue his career
in the private sector and I am aware that he has continued to demonstrate the qualities
and abilities mentioned above. I believe Jim would be an asset to any employer.
